LABOR SOLICITS PROPOSALS FOR $900,000 IN JOB TRAINING GRANTS

STEP Money Aimed at Job Training In Health Care, Construction, Tourism

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development is encouraging interested and qualified organizations to apply for job training grants available through the State Training and Employment Program (STEP). Nine hundred thousand dollars ($900,000) in grants are available for services to clients residing within the Balance of State Service Delivery Area which encompasses all areas of Alaska, except the Municipality of Anchorage and the Mat-Su Borough. One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) of this amount will be dedicated to projects serving the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

Labor and Workforce Development issued the request for proposals (RFP) in partnership with the Balance of State Workforce Investment Board, the local policy-making board that oversees job-training programs for the department.

The STEP program was developed to promote local hire, provide job opportunities, and build a well-trained and skilled workforce to attract high growth industries. Proposals in fisheries, natural resource development, value added timber production, health care, construction, transportation, and tourism are encouraged. The deadline to apply for the grants is June 16th.

Copies of the RFP are available on the Labor and Workforce Development website at: www.labor.state.ak.us
