City Of Kenai Waste Water Treatment Plant Awarded Sharp Designation For Third Time

Feb. 6, 2002
No. 02-08

The City of Kenai, Waste Water Treatment Plant has for the third straight year been recognized for its outstanding safety record, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced today.

"The Waste Water Treatment Plant employees have been recognized under the Alaska Occupational Safety and Health SHARP for an unprecedented third straight year," said Labor Commissioner Ed Flanagan. "This reflects greatly upon the company's dedication to workers' safety."

In SHARP, management, labor, and Alaska Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)  establish a cooperative relationship at a workplace that has implemented a strong safety and health program. Participation in the program is voluntary and does not exempt the work site from OSH enforcement activities in case of employee complaints and accident investigations. The work site is, however, removed from general scheduled inspections for the approved period of time (from 1 to 2 years).

Alaska's Director of Labor Standards and Safety, Rich Mastriano, presents the Alaska Occupational Safety and Health SHARP Award (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) at City Hall in Kenai Wednesday, February 6 at 7 PM during the City Council meeting.
