Governor’S Employment And Rehabilitation Panel Sets Public Testimony July 14 In Valdez

JUNEAU – The Governor’s Committee on Employment and Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities will gather in Valdez July 14-16 for the panel’s regular quarterly meeting.

The committee promotes employment and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. It encourages efforts to increase awareness and foster cooperative efforts and programs to provide assistance to the disabled and education about disability issues.

The committee schedule on Wednesday the 14th will include one hour reserved from 4-5 p.m. for public testimony on disability needs and issues.

All committee sessions will be open to the public beginning daily at 8:30 a.m. in the training room of Prince William Sound Community College at 303 Lowe Street.

Persons outside Valdez wishing to testify by teleconference are encouraged to call 1.800.315.6338 between 4-5 p.m. on the 14th. Callers should enter 468# as the access code when prompted to do so. Written testimony may be submitted in advance by fax to 907.465.2856 to the attention of Carol Stephens.

Fiscal Year 2005 meetings of the governor’s committee are currently scheduled for October 6-8, 2004 in Fairbanks; January 19-21, 2005 in Juneau and April 20-22, 2005 in Dillingham.

The committee is administered by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development in compliance with the federal Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
