ARRA funds may be used to pay unemployment insurance benefits or to enhance existing UI program operations.
Unemployment Insurance
Program
The UI Program received $1.1 million in ARRA funds that were deposited to the Alaska Unemployment Insurance
Trust Fund. The funds will be used to meet increased demand for UI benefits and services.
Unemployment Compensation Modernization
SB 170, which was signed by Governor Palin on May 28, 2009, provides for an alternate base period for UI
claimants that do not meet eligibility requirements using the standard base period. By signing this
legislation, Alaska will be eligible to receive an additional $5.2 million.
Reemployment Services Program
RES will be expanded to provide support services to those who are unemployed or under-employed. Services will include job search assistance and career counseling, or referrals for skills training, apprenticeships or small business development.
