Alaska Occupational Safety and Health (AKOSH) Youth Programs
Mission Statement:
The Alaska Youth Employment and Safety (YES) program’s main mission is to educate and protect its young workers from workplace injuries. This is done by reaching out to students across Alaska and educating them on the importance of workplace safety. The AKOSH youth program promotes making good safety choices, recognizing safety hazards, knowing workplace rights and responsibilities, and speaking up for safety. The Alaska Occupational Safety and Health youth program has a team of professionals who are dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and welfare of Alaska’s young workers and ensuring their workplace rights are protected.
Youth employment rights are the following:
- Right to a safe and healthy workplace
- Right to receive training about safety and health hazards
- Right to receive protective gear and safety equipment
- Right to refuse work if the job is immediately dangerous to life or health
- Right to report safety and health problems to AKOSH without fear of being terminated
