Alaska Department Of Labor And Workforce Development And Us Department Of Labor, Trade Adjustment Assistance (Taa) Programs To Hold Hearings In Cordova, Kodiak And Juneau

The Alaska Department of Labor in conjunction with the US Department of Labor will hold public hearings in Cordova, Kodiak and Juneau to take comments on issues concerning the economic downturn in the fishing industry due to competition from farmed salmon. Fishermen, processors and other interested parties are invited to attend.

Attending these hearings will be Mr. Tim Sullivan, Director of Trade Adjustment Assistance, and other officials from the US Department of Labor, as well as representatives from the State of Alaska, Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Issues to be discussed are the decline in the Alaska Salmon Industry and difficulties for fishermen to qualify for TAA program benefits –which include training, job search and relocation allowances.

These meetings are an opportunity to present information, make comments, and provide suggestions directly to US Department of Labor officials who oversee the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program.

The first meeting is scheduled in Cordova on Tuesday, August 12th , from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and will be held at the:

Cordova, Alaska

The second public meeting is scheduled in Kodiak on Wednesday, August 13th, 1:30-3:30 p.m. and will be held at the:
Fisherman’s Hall

Kodiak, Alaska

The third public meeting is scheduled in Juneau on Thursday, August 14th, 1:30-4:30 p.m. and will be held in room 303 of the:
Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development

Juneau, Alaska
