Internal Medicine firm earns “SHARP” recognition

ANCHORAGE – An Anchorage medical practice has been recognized by state labor officials for implementing an outstanding and voluntary job site safety and health program.

Internal Medicine Associates becomes the tenth Alaska firm to be so honored. The company has a corporate staff of 45, with 32 employees at its 2841 DeBarr Road offices.

The firm was praised for excellence as a participant in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), administered by the office of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the Division of Labor Standards and Safety of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Labor Commissioner Greg O’Claray said, “Alaska’s health care professionals are in the ‘front lines’ helping safeguard the public health. We salute the caring, public-spirited volunteers at Internal Medicine Associates, as well as all ten Alaska companies that have worked hard to earn SHARP recognition.”

Labor Standards and Safety Division Director Grey Mitchell also applauded Internal Medicine for its outstanding safety and health record, including no OSH-reported injuries or illnesses throughout 2001-2002.

Mitchell said the medical firm earned the SHARP award for a year and will continue to retain the recognition as long as the company meets safety and health requirements. The firm also is excused from generally-scheduled OSH inspections for one to two years. It will continue to be subject to enforcement in cases of employee complaints or accident investigations.
