No. 05-45

JUNEAU – The Office of Citizenship Assistance in the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will hold a public open house from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13.

The office is located in room 106 of the labor department building at 1111 West 8th St. near the Douglas bridge.

“The mission of the Office of Citizenship Assistance is to improve employment opportunities and prevent discrimination against legal aliens,” said Labor Commissioner Greg O’Claray. “The office will coordinate closely with state and federal agencies to assist legal alien Alaskans on the path to full citizenship.”

Citizenship Coordinator Cheryl Adamson said the office will provide employment information and service referrals for legal aliens. Referral services include information about labor organizations, administrative agencies, claims or charges of job discrimination or illegal termination of employment and unsafe working conditions.

Assistance may also include help with forms, checking on the status of employment applications and assistance in communicating with other government agencies.
