No. 05-48

(Juneau) – Alaska employers and health and safety professionals will share the latest information to help keep workers safe, healthy and productive, at the 25th Annual Alaska Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, March 14-16, 2005 in Anchorage.

The annual conference is sponsored by the Governor’s Safety Advisory Council and the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development as part of their continuing effort to help promote a more safe and healthful working environment for Alaskans, said Labor Commissioner Greg O’Claray.

“Alaska’s progress in improving working conditions depends on a continual exchange of ideas, information and insights from professionals in many fields,” O’Claray said. “The 25th annual Governor’s Conference is an essential part of continuing that information flow that is so important to workplace safety.”

The three-day event offers industry, construction, and health and safety professionals the chance to exchange information on new and current occupational safety and health concerns, to observe exciting and innovative safety and health products, and to network with a variety of safety and health resources.

Andrew Razeghi, a nationally known speaker and advisor on innovation, creativity, and growth strategy, will address the more than 400 delegates expected to attend. His presentation, “Hope: The Mindful Leader’s Advantage,” is scheduled for the March 14 keynote luncheon. Razeghi, a guest lecturer at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, will also lead a roundtable discussion that afternoon on, “Putting Hope to Work.”

Other highlights of the conference at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center, include:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Region 10 Administrator Richard Terrill, speaking on “OSHA’s Roll in Emergency Response”
  • Recognition of outstanding safety and health achievements by individuals and organizations, at an awards luncheon March 15
  • An exhibitor’s hall with more than 50 displays with the latest in products and services in the health and safety industry, open throughout the conference
