Insulfoam Inc. Approved For Voluntary Protection Program

May 18, 2005
No. 05-61

Greg O’Claray, Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, approved Insulfoam, Inc. of Anchorage for the Alaska Occupational Safety and Health Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) star level. Commissioner O’Claray commented, “This company understands the benefits of aggressively combating causes of workplace injuries. With the problems caused by cost increases associated with Workers’ Compensation Insurance, Alaska’s employers are well advised to follow Insulfoam’s example.”

This achievement puts Insulfoam, Inc. in elite status among Alaska’s employers and demonstrates the company’s commitment to outstanding safety and health performance throughout the organization. As a benefit, the company will be excluded from general schedule AKOSH enforcement inspections for a period of 5 years. The award ceremony will be held this summer at the company’s facilities at 628 Western Drive in Anchorage.

Insulfoam, Inc. manufactures expanded polystyrene foam products that are ideally suited for Alaska’s climatic conditions. Many of the company’s products are produced from recycled plastic products. For more information about the company, contact Daryl Sobek, General Manager, at (907) 279-9407 or visit the company’s website at: http://www.alaskarails.org/industries/insulfoam.html

There are currently only three other Alaska companies that have received this status for particular work sites. British Petroleum’s Central Power Station, Air Logistics, Inc. and UniSea, Inc. have also achieved the VPP star level. On a nationwide basis, only 847 companies have achieved the OSHA VPP star award.

According to Grey Mitchell, Division of Labor Standards and Safety Director, “Insulfoam has made a serious commitment to the occupational safety and health of its workforce and, in doing so, has virtually eliminated the need for certain government enforcement activities at its site. This is a tremendous program with outstanding results.”
