Oct. 11, 2019
No. 19-22

JUNEAU, Alaska-The National Association of State Workforce Agencies has named Dr. Tamika L. Ledbetter, commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as national chair of its Employment and Training Committee.

"My focus is to connect Alaskans to good-paying jobs. Whether that job is in the maritime industry in Southeast or in the oil and gas industry on the North Slope, I want Alaskans to be trained and ready to go to work in the Alaskan economy," she said. "My appointment to the chairmanship of the national Employment and Training Committee will help develop national connections in support of this important goal."

The Employment and Training Committee develops legislative priorities for Congress and is a forum for states to share information and solutions for emerging workforce development issues.

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development oversees numerous state and federal workforce development programs and administers 14 one-stop job centers across the state. The department provides financial support to regional training centers, including AVTEC and other educational partners that connect Alaskans with training and employment.
