Labor Commissioner Warns Alaskans About Ui Text Message Scam

JUNEAU, Alaska — Commissioner Dr. Tamika L. Ledbetter is warning Alaskans today that the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development has received numerous calls regarding a current Unemployment Insurance (UI) scam where individuals are being sent text messages advising of funds being deposited into their UI account by clicking on a link.
For your security and to avoid fraudulent scams please be aware:

  • A UI representative will never contact a UI claimant regarding eligibility or payment via text message or online website. Official correspondence will be sent through the mail or via telephone. If you are contacted over the telephone, the UI representative will identify themselves.
  • The official UI website for Alaska is https://labor.alaska.gov/unemployment.
  • Filing a UI claim in Alaska is free and a claimant will never be charged to have a UI claim processed.

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development is committed to the integrity of the UI program.

If you have reason to believe that someone has applied for UI benefits using your information or that you may have possibly been a victim of a UI scam, report the incident immediately to Benefit Payment Control, Investigations Unit at (907) 269-4880 or uifraud@alaska.gov.
