No. 23-16

JUNEAU, Alaska — Members of the news media are invited to attend the opening of the 2023 Alaska Workforce Development Convening at the Egan Center in downtown Anchorage on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023. The two-day conference (Oct. 30-31) is sponsored by the Alaska Workforce Investment Board (AWIB) and will kick off with opening remarks from Alaska Department of Revenue Commissioner Adam Crum, and Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development Acting Commissioner Catherine Muñoz.

Acting Commissioner Muñoz will also hold a brief media availability immediately following her opening remarks. The media availability will end no later than 10 a.m.

The purpose of the AWIB Workforce Development Convening is multifaceted, and the event has been organized to help identify a comprehensive statewide response to new workforce challenges across Alaska. On day one, representatives from Alaska’s industries will participate in small breakout sessions where they will share about their specific workforce needs for the present, and for the future.

Discussions will include conversations about regional workforce planning and identifying short-term and mid-term priorities for workforce development in Alaska’s industries. On day two, representatives from Alaska’s training providers and educators will respond to what they have heard on day one and will identify needed roles to address industry priorities and clarify action steps.

The industry led convening is a continuation of various efforts by Governor Mike Dunleavy and his cabinet to improve pathways for competitive and gainful employment and training opportunities for Alaskans.
