March Jobs up 1.7 percent from March 2024

JUNEAU, Alaska — March’s statewide job count was up by 5,500, or 1.7 percent, from last March.
Health care and construction each added 1,100 jobs over the year. North Slope oil and gas projects and some early-season federally funded infrastructure projects boosted the construction industry as well as professional and business services (up 500 jobs) and transportation, warehousing and utilities (1,200). Oil and gas employment was up by 600.
Most industries added jobs, but retail (-400), financial activities (-200), manufacturing (-200) and information (-100) declined over the year. Wholesale employment was flat.
State government added 600 jobs, about a third at the University of Alaska. Local and federal government each added 100 jobs.
Alaska’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent and the U.S rate ticked up slightly, from 4.1 percent in February to 4.2 percent in March.
