Labor Provides New Web Service For Tax-Paying Employers

Nov. 29, 2002
No. 02-68

Speed, convenience, security and accuracy are benefits of new Web options

Alaska employers who pay UI taxes by filing Quarterly Contribution Reports on wages paid to workers now have an opportunity to use the Internet for a variety of reporting and registration options that Ed Flanagan, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced today.

Now activated, the new Tax Web site, linked from
labor.alaska.gov/estax/home.htm permits employers to:
     • Enter wage information
     • Upload wage details by sending a computer file over the Web
     • Submit zero or "no wages" reports

"We now have an easier way for employers to do their quarterly contribution reporting. This is especially timely for any late filers to use the ease and convenience of the Internet for the remainder of this current quarter," Flanagan said.

To access the online Quarterly Contribution Reporting, employers will need:

     • An Alaska Employer ID number on record with Employment Security (ES) Tax
     • A Federal Identification Number with the IRS
     • A Personal Identification Number (PIN) issued online as part of the new Web service

Transmission of confidential data is protected by state-of-the-art technology with high encryption coding. The online filing capability is only the first phase of Internet services the labor department intends to make available.

"Convenience, speed, security and accuracy are what we're designing into this new process so Alaska's employers can save time and money fulfilling their reporting requirements," continued Flanagan.

Information about the new Tax Web options, including any future updates, is available on a regular basis to all registered employers in Alaska through the ES Tax quarterly newsletter, also published online, or employers may call ES Tax at 1-888-448-3527.
