December jobs up 2.0 percent from December 2022

JUNEAU, Alaska — December’s statewide job count was up by 6,000, or 2.0 percent, from December 2022.
Most Alaska industries grew over the year. Health care added 1,300 jobs, with the strongest growth in hospitals. Mining and logging was up 700, as was transportation, warehousing and utilities. Leisure and hospitality gained 600 jobs over the year, mainly in restaurants and bars. The information industry remained flat while financial activities was down by 100 jobs.
Government job growth was led by federal government (400) followed by local government, which includes public schools (300). State government was down 100 jobs over the year.
Alaska’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in December and the U.S. rate was 3.7 percent.
